Hansen Fellowship at the Center for Medical Innovation

At a Glance:
The Center for Medical Innovation (CMI) at the University of Utah has been a catalyst for medical device innovation since its inception in 2012, producing hundreds of new technologies. Julie’s educational background in nursing and her passion for fostering healthcare innovation led to her collaboration with CMI. The Dr. Julie A Hansen Fellowship was established to provide scholarship support to graduate students actively involved in developing next-generation medical devices, advancing both technology and healthcare.
Why:
The Center for Medical Innovation (CMI) at the University of Utah has produced hundreds of new medical devices since its inception in 2012. Julie’s education at the University’s Nursing Program as well as her commitment to fostering innovative healthcare initiatives, led to her partnership with CMI. The Dr. Julie A Hansen Fellowship provides scholarship support for graduate students who are actively developing next-generation medical devices.
Program Benefits

- Two semesters (Fall & Spring) of full tuition scholarship for student’s graduate program, in addition to monthly living stipend
- Flexibility: Students select their 12-month program cycle:
- Opt 1, Summer Start (e.g. Summer 2024, Fall 2024, and Spring 2025 semesters)
- Opt 2, Fall Start (e.g. Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025 semesters)
Candidate Requirements
- Preference for Graduate Students in the Master of Business Administration, Master of Science: Mechanical, Electrical, or Biomedical Engineering, or other life science programs.
- 20 hours/week on-site at the CMI offices in downtown SLC
- Familiarity with device development pipeline or previous experience in the healthcare industry preferred.
